Your Donations Make a Difference

(June, 2008)

Your donations of whole blood, double red cells or platelets can make a difference in the lives of blood recipients, such as James Crofoot of Graves County, Ky.

On Oct. 23, 2003, 15-year-old James Crofoot was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma. Osteosarcoma is the most common type of bone cancer and most often seen in teenage boys. 1

A dedicated freshman football player, James was used to facing rivals on the field. But when cancer tackled him, it was a hit he didn’t see coming.

James’ first line of defense was chemotherapy. The treatment took its toll, and James required 246 units of blood and platelets to survive.

“I would have never made it without people donating blood. I’m very thankful!” says James.

Today, James feels like he scored the winning touchdown against his toughest opponent. His cancer has been in remission for three years—a victory for his entire family.

You can help save the lives of people like James Crofoot by donating blood to the American Red Cross. For more information, or to schedule your blood donation appointment, call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE.
