Participants learn basic information about what a disaster is, its effects on people
and the community, the role of the Red Cross, government and other private agencies in
alleviating those effects.
This course provides basic information about the activities of the Mass Care function.
Participants will learn about the skills and abilities needed by Mass Care workers and how
they can get started in their local chapter.
Participants learn what damage assessment is, why it is needed, how it is obtained, and
what sources of information are available. How to prepare and submit survey and damage
assessment information and its importance to Family Service are also covered.
This workshop prepares Red Cross and other agencies' staff to effectively and
sensitively manage shelter operations as a team, to meet the needs of people displaced as
a result of a disaster.
This course is to enable Red Cross paid and volunteer staff to meet the emergency needs
of families on an individual basis following a disaster in a chapter setting. The
course is designed to help the participants develop the interviewing skills, knowledge,
attitudes, and relationships necessary to meet the disaster-caused needs of individuals
and families.

This workshop includes information on the causes and effects of earthquakes; what to do during an earthquake; what to do after an earthquake and how to prepare for an earthquake. Prerequisite: None
ERV Workshop - This workshop is to teach procedures for operating and working aboard the Emergency Response Vehicle. Prerequisites: Mass Care, CPR and First Aid certificates, valid CDL, and DMV print out.
Supervision in Disaster (3086-F) - This purpose of this course is to prepare participants to function effectively as Disaster Services supervisors. Prerequisites: Call your local American Red Cross Chapter.
Disaster Health Services - An Overview (3076-1) - The purposes of this course is to assist Red Cross paid and volunteer staff to organize and administer the Disaster Health Services function on the chapter level, and tells them how the Disaster Health Services function is initiated on a larger disaster relief operation. Prerequisites: Introduction to Disaster Services (ARC 3066)
Disaster Mental Health (3076-1F) The purpose of this course is to prepare participants to use their professional skills to provide the specific activities and interventions necessary to meet the immediate disaster-related mental health needs to Red cross workers, their families and people affected by disasters. Prerequisites: Call your local American Red Cross Chapter.
