Our History A National System Our region is one of 35 blood centers across the nation operated by the American Red Cross, whose Biomedical Headquarters is situated in Rosslyn, Virginia, just outside of Washington, DC. With the help of close to six million volunteer blood donors across the nation, the American Red Cross is one of the largest systems collecting and processing blood in the United States, supplying over 3,000 hospitals across the nation. The blood program operates on a cost recovery basis, supported by processing fees for products and services provided to patients in hospitals and clinics we serve. .... with Local Roots
