fires are America's most frequent, deadly and devastating
disaster. However, its been found that
Americans underestimate their risk of fire. Choosing
from a list of disasters, 31 percent of those surveyed said
they felt most at risk of tornadoes, while only 27 percent
named fire as the highest risk.
In partnership with
Chase, the American Red Cross of Greater Columbus has created a
fire prevention initiative called Safe Homes Safe
Families to increase public awareness of fire safety
in neighborhoods with high rates of residential fires.
Volunteer
Support Needed
To
Promote Fire Safety & Prevention
In our
community, the American Red Cross of Greater Columbus answers
to more than 400 house fires each year.
We
need your help! Volunteers are needed to canvass at
risk community neighborhoods.
Groups of
volunteers would walk and drop information door-to-door. This would not require entering homes or initiating
conversation. Volunteers
meet at the American Red Cross of Greater Columbus Chapter
located at 995 East Broad Street.
