Title

Youth
First Aid Service Corps Member (FASC)
|
Purpose
|
Put your first aid skills
to use helping others remain safe! FASC members provide
immediate and temporary first aid services for people with
injury or sudden illness at community events such as:
-OSU
football and basketball games
-Community
events such as the Columbus Arts Festival, Columbus
Marathon
-Special
Events like concerts at Schottenstein Center

Training
|
Hold a Red Cross Adult CRP and Standard First Aid
Certification.
Attend “Intro to FASC” on first Tuesday of
month, 6-9 PM. (You must have completed a volunteer
interview and current certification to attend this class.)

Commitment
|
FASC activities occur
evenings and weekends. Volunteers sign up in advance for
events of their choice, must commit to no less than 6
events per year (3 must be non-sporting) but no more than
2 events per week.

Disaster
Action Team Member
|
Purpose
|
Be
a part of a team that provides emergency response to local
disasters, particularly house fires, ensuring those
affected have basic necessities such as food, shelter and
clothing. Volunteers meet at chapter and drive to scene
together in Red Cross vehicle supplied with relief
equipment. At the scene, they report to official in
charge, assess the situation, and initiate the appropriate
Red Cross assistance.

drivers license and home phone number
- Ability to communicate
effectively with people from diverse backgrounds
- Minimum
Age: 16 years old (though 18 & still in high school:
must have completed Parental Consent Form on file)

Training
|
Introduction to Disaster Services (3 hours); DAT Orientation
(3 hours); other courses are required within one year of
placement to maintain active status.

Commitment
|
Two shifts per month (day shifts Mon-Fri: 5 PM-10 PM; evening
shifts: Weekends:
Sat 7AM –12 PM; Sat 12 PM –10 PM; Sun 7 AM -5 PM).
(Summer Hours: Monday-Thursday 7 AM – 5 PM). A
Mandatory monthly DAT meeting-1st Tuesday at
6:30 PM. Prefer
commitment for a minimum of six months.

Community Awareness Team Member |
Purpose
|
Many people know that the
Red Cross provides disaster relief and collects
blood/blood products from donors, but don’t realize that
we offer many other vital programs and services to the
community! As a CAT member, you will deepen the public’s
understanding of what we do, and the role they can play in
supporting us.
|
Qualifications
|
- Ability
to initiate conversations with the public
- Excellent
verbal communication skills
- Positive
personal appearance
- Ability
to learn and convey basic information about Red Cross
programs
- Minimum
age: 15 years
|
Training
|
Volunteers shadow
current CAT members at events/info fairs and receive on-the-job
training and orientation
|

and Safety Instructor |
Purpose
|
Now more than ever, we
understand the need to be prepared to respond when
emergencies happen. As a volunteer instructor, you can
teach people safety and emergency response skills by
becoming a certified instructor in Adult CPR, Infant and
Child CPR, First Aid, Babysitting, Water Safety, HIV/AIDS
Education and more.

- The
costs for Instructor course will be waved when a
contract is signed and the terms met. (Fee will be
waived if volunteer teaches at least 4 times in the
first year.)

Purpose
|

The
best way to prevent and be prepared for an emergency is to
already have the skills needed to respond quickly and
effectively.
Be part of a team that educates pre-K through 3rd
grade student’s disaster safety information though
Puppet Theater.

to operate puppets & do simple stage assembling

to carry at least 20 – 25 Lbs.

age: 16 years* (age requirement may be
negotiated)

Those students needing Community Service Hours
Tuesdays
4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and one Saturday a month, February
2006 to August 2006. Participation in a minimum of 3
productions.
