HIV/AIDS Education

The American Red Cross, working in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, educates people on how to stop the transmission of HIV, encourages people to respond in informed ways to people who have HIV, and helps people apply the facts about HIV to their own behavior. We offer several different courses.

HIV/AIDS EducationBasic HIV/AIDS Program
Our Basic HIV/AIDS Program helps people take steps to prevent the spread of HIV. Basic HIV/AIDS Program: Fundamentals provides the opportunity to openly discuss the facts about HIV and AIDS and personalize the facts so they become more meaningful. It's a good way to encourage people to adopt prevention behaviors to protect themselves and others from HIV. Basic HIV/AIDS Program: Prevention Skills can help people develop and practice skills that they can use in real life situations to protect themselves and others from HIV. Red Cross-trained instructors can conduct sessions of the Basic HIV/AIDS Program in your community.

African American HIV/AIDS Program
This course equips African American youth, families, and caregiving adults with culturally affirming HIV/AIDS information that can help them protect themselves and others from HIV infection. The program was developed by African American paid and volunteer staff of the Red Cross working in partnership with the National Urban League.

Hispanic HIV/AIDS Program
Our Hispanic HIV/AIDS Program emphasizes plática or dialogue and reaches youth and their families with HIV/AIDS information that they can use to protect themselves and others from HIV infection. It was developed in cooperation with national Hispanic organizations.

Workplace HIV/AIDS Program
The Red Cross offers this course to address HIV-related issues for employees and employers, such as transmission and prevention, rights and responsibilities, legislation such as the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990, and local resources and services.
