BECOME A RED CROSS INSTRUCTOR! The Central Illinois Chapter would like to invite you to become part of the American Red Cross training team. Teaching Red Cross courses is a rewarding experience and provides individuals with the opportunity to enhance their personal growth and knowledge. In addition, as a Red Cross instructor, you will be helping individuals to prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. Your efforts will help make our community a safer place to live. You do not need to be a professional educator to become a Red Cross instructor. The Red Cross will provide you with all materials and training to prepare you to teach your classes. Teaching is a very rewarding experience. The Central Illinois Chapter

FUNDAMENTALS OF INSTRUCTOR TRAINING

6 hours Prerequisite: None Fee: $25 Valid:
1 year Learn basis information about the teaching & learning process & their applications to Red Cross programs. ICT covers the factors affecting student learning, instructor functions, teaching methods & aids, evaluation processes, & administration of Red Cross courses. This course needs to be taken only once provided the instructor candidate becomes a Red Cross Instructor within one year of completing the ICT class & retains his/her instructor authorization. |

of age; have an Instructor Candidate Training certificate issued within the
past 12 months or hold a current Red Cross Instructor authorization,
& demonstrate proficiency in CPR/FA skills. Fee: $225 Valid: 2 years This course will prepare an individual to teach Adult CPR, Infant, & Child CPR, Community CPR, Standard First Aid, & Community First Aid & Safety. Develop an understanding of course materials, presentation techniques, & evaluation methods. Participants will be tested on basic level skills & knowledge the first day of class. It is recommended that you receive basic text prior to class. Participants will receive all the materials necessary to become an American Red Cross Instructor – materials include instructor manual, participant manuals, binder, course paperwork, signage, shirt, & more. |

Prepares the participants to conduct Standard First Aid; Standard First Aid with AED (automated external defibrillator); Adult CPR; Adult CPR/AED, Ergonomics, & Slips, Trips, & Falls training’s. Provides an understanding of course materials, presentation techniques, evaluation methods, & procedures for preparing & submitting Red Cross records. Participants will be tested on basic level skills & knowledge the first day of class. It is recommended that participants review the basic text prior to the pre-course testing session. Participants will receive all necessary materials to become an American Red Cross Instructor - materials include instructor manual, participant manuals, binder, course paperwork, signage, shirt, & more. |

WORKPLACE
TRAINING: STANDARD FIRST AID INSTRUCTOR
COMPRESSED COURSE

6.5 hours Prerequisite: Participants must be 17 years of
age & be a currently authorized Red Cross Instructor in CPR for
the Professional Rescuer, Community First Aid & Safety, Standard First
Aid, Adult CPR, Infant & Child CPR (Must upgrade skills to include Adult
CPR), First Aid: Responding to Emergencies, or Sport Safety Training. Fees: $125 Valid: 2 years This shortened course
prepares current Red Cross Instructors to become Workplace Training:
Standard First Aid Instructors. Instructors authorized to teach first aid
must complete bleeding control & splinting scenarios. All participants
must complete one AED skill scenario. (New instructors are not eligible
for this course.)

Participants will be oriented to the function & use of AED’s. Instructor candidates must complete practice teaching assignments related to AED’s. |

CPR for the
PROFESSIONAL RESCUER INSTRUCTOR BRIDGING

4 hours Prerequisite: Participant must be at least 17
years old; have a current Community First Aid & Safety, Community
CPR, or First Aid certificate; be a certified instructor in Responding to
Emergencies; & demonstrate proficiency in respiratory & cardiac
emergency skills (CPR for the Professional Rescuer recommended). Participants
will be tested on skills & knowledge the first day of class. Fee: $65 Valid: 2 years This course prepares participants to teach professional rescuers the necessary skills to respond appropriately to respiratory & cardiac emergencies & includes the use of a pocket mask, two-rescuer CPR, & bag-valve-mask skills. |

PREVENTING
BACK INJURY INSTRUCTOR

8 hours The Preventing Back Injury Instructor Course prepares you
to teach knowledge, skills, and exercises to protect, stretch, and strengthen
the back. You will also receive a Protect Your Back basic certificate at the
end of this class. Prerequisites:
Individuals must be at least 17 years of age (please
provide proof of age). Instructor
Candidate Training certificate issued within the past 12 months or
Current Red Cross Instructor Authorization. Requirements:
Participate in all course activities and exercises.
Successful completion of two practice teaching assignments. Pass two written
tests with 80% or better. Certificate Validity: 2 years. Price: $25.00 |

BASIC HIV/AIDS

years old; must have an Instructor Candidate Training certificate issued
within the past 12 months or current Red Cross Instructor Authorization; must
also have an HIV/AIDS Starter Facts certificate issued within the past 12
months; and HIV/AIDS Facts Practice certificate issued within the past 12
months. Fee: $80 Valid: 1 year This course prepares you to teach community presentations. You will learn to share the facts about HIV and AIDS in an accurate, nonjudgmental & sensitive atmosphere with people from diverse groups & communities. Learn how to facilitate group discussions & how to encourage people to apply the facts to their own behavior. |
