RED CROSS CLOWN CRISPY NOTES

October 1, 2009

President Phil Smith called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m.

The following members were present: Dick Philo, Dorothy Philo, Marilyn Rutter, Chuck Rutter, Bonnie Howland, Dee Conine, Rick Conine, Marti Darrow, Phil Smith, Kathy Philo, Janet Dix, Jean Kyser, Kelly Sadowsky, Duane Walters, Gale Angus, Corbin Angus, Preston Eakins, Pat Wilson, Rick Stallings, Susan Fruin, Sarah Stallings, Naomi Love, Ruth Rugg, and Sandi Christie.

Motion was made to accept the September Minutes with correction – September 8 should have been September 28 for the beginning of Clown Class – Motion carried.

OLD BUSINESS:

Stamps and stamp pads will cost $11.00 a set and are in. They will be at the Red Cross Building if you need them.

Clown Class will be on Mondays, 9/28 – 11/16. Please contact Phil Smith at (269) 781-5102 if interested in assisting.

Fire Historical Arts after school youth circus program – Contact Phil Smith at (269) 781-5102 if you seek more information.

Hours requested by Preston Eakins for performing two shows at the Calhoun County Fair – Motion made by Naomi Love, 2nd by Ruth Rugg to accept hours. Motion Carried.

Hours requested by Ruth Rugg for CROP Walk – Ed Miller made the motion, Duane Walters 2nd the motion to accept hours. Motion Carried.

Remember clown convention is October 7-11 in Lansing. Cost is $30.00 a day. Hotel is Country Side Motel on South Cedar. There will be a banquet on Saturday, 10/10/09 with awards given out. Registration starts at 8:00 am and classes start at 9:00 am. For more information: www.midwestclowns.net.

Clown of the Year Committee consists of: Rick Conine, Dee Conine, Ed Miller, Dorothy Philo and Mike Hensley. We will meet in November to nominate our Baby Clown of the Year and our Clown of the Year. You will have paperwork in the October meeting if not before.

Clown Pictures – Sandi Christie is working on this. She has found an individual that will take our professional clown pictures for free. If you are interested please contact Sandi at schristie333@yahoo.com.

NEW BUSINESS:

Amendment to the By-Laws: As is: Article II, Section 1: Must be introduced to the Clown Troupe at a regular meeting. Applicant must have completed Introductory Clown Class taught by the Red Cross at a fee of $25.00.

Chang to: Article II, Section 1: Must be introduced to the Clown Troupe at a regular meeting. Applicant must have completed Introductory Clown Class taught by the Red Cross at a fee of $35.00.

The dollar amount is changing for the class. We will vote on this in the November meeting. Submitted by Ed Miller and Duane Walters.

Marshall’s Annual Scarecrow Parade will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2009, Line-Up at the fountain at 12:00 with a Kick-Off at 1:00 pm. (we did not vote this in, if you attend we can back vote in the event next month. Go and have a great time.

The Bellevue Christmas Parade will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2009. The line-up will be at 4:00 pm with a kick-off at 5:00 pm. Line-up at the water tower? Marti Darrow made the motion to accept this event, 2nd by Sandi Christie. Motion Carried.

On Saturday, October 3, 2009 there will be a Diabetes Event held at Binder Park in the Pavilion. The event will be from 9:30 to 11:30 am. Motion was made by Sandi Christie and 2nd by Duane Walters to accept this event. Motion Carried. They will take anything we can provide.

On Friday, November 6, 2009 from 5-7 pm will be the Annual Pancake Supper at the Franke Center in Marshall. They will take anything we can provide. Motion was made by Ed Miller and 2nd by Preston Eakins to accept this event. Motion Carried.

We have a new publicity person – welcome Corbin Angus to the fold as our new publicity person. Naomi was training him after the meeting on Thursday. Corbin, you will do great and thank you for taking this tasking.

“Clash” the clown will be a the clown class on Monday, November 2, 2009 from 6:30 to ? to teach face painting “Clash” is a great teacher of face painting. The class is open to all who wish to attend. She will also be at the convention this weekend.

North Penn is holding a Fun Fair for the Pre-Kindergarten to 2nd grade on Thursday, 10/22/09 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. They would like balloons and face painting. Ruth Rugg made the motion to accept this event, Rick Conine 2nd the motion. Motion Carried. There are only two signed up for this event, if you can, please help out.

The Battle Creek Holiday Parade will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2009. Line-Up (float competition) will be at 4:00 pm with a Kick-Off at 5:00 pm. This years theme is “Twelve Days of Christmas.” The float committee will be formed soon. If you are interested, contact Phil Smith at (269) 781-5102. Motion was made by Marti Darrow and 2nd by Dorothy Philo to participate in the parade. Motion Carried.

We will vote on Officers next month, the nominations are:

If you are interested in running for a position or wish to nominate a person, please let Phil Smith know at (269) 781-5102. You must have graduated from clown class year to be eligible to run for a position, per our constitution.

NOTES:

Midwest Clown Convention will be held in Lansing October 7 – 10. Hotel will be the Holiday Inn. If you are interested in going information is at the Midwest Clown Convention website, or contact Ron Pinch at (269) 420-3044.

Ed Miller will be taking care of the balloon orders and inventory. If there are balloons you would like to have in the inventory, please talk to Ed.

Kathy Philo is in the process of taking pictures for clown badges. Some have already been taken. (IF you have taken pictures of the clowns, face shots; please get with Kathy. - Thanks)

Need a banner for a parade, call Phil Smith at 781-5102 at least two days before the Event.

We may put DONATION jars out at events if we wish. However we are to leave the jar sealed and take it to the Red Cross for counting.
