AMERICAN RED CROSS IN COLDWATER
Beta Sigma Phi Sorority Chapter Lambda Master and the American Red Cross have a nearly fifty year history together thanks to a committed group of Coldwater area women. During the 1950s, Dorothy Culy, as well as other Beta Sigma Phi Chapter members decided to make the American Red Cross their community project. It has turned into a Red Cross volunteer tradition that exists to this day.
Some of the volunteers who were helping out long ago are still contributing. Volunteers Barb Hapner, Ellen Smith, Marilyn Miller, and Marge Prestidge, are among those whose volunteer commitment exceeds a decade. These women along with other Red Cross volunteers register and serve refreshments to blood donors.
In addition to these tasks, volunteers recruit new volunteers and blood donors, as well as schedule volunteers to assist at blood drives. Barb Hapner has taken on these additional leadership tasks in the past and has recently agreed to take them on again due to the retirement of long time blood drive leader Lucille Sanborn. Fortunately, Barb has volunteer blood drive partners Jan Berry and Shirley Chase to help share the responsibility. Together the three of them have organized a sharing of the duties.
Gratitude and congratulations to all of these women for the years of volunteer service they have provided to the American Red Cross. The dedication, hard work, and support they have given has been instrumental in the success of Coldwater blood drives.
