VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
October 2009
Ellen Roth
The American Red Cross, serving Branch and Calhoun counties, has chosen to shine our October Volunteer Spotlight on Ellen Roth! Ellen, a retired elementary school teacher, first joined the Red Cross here in Calhoun County in 1996. Ellen has completed countless hours of training with the Red Cross and is a qualified disaster client caseworker, caseworker supervisor, as well as an instructor for Disaster Training. Ellen also presents Disaster Education in the community. Ellen has been deployed on 19 Red Cross national disaster assignments ranging from North Dakota to Louisiana, and included disastrous floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, and the September 11 terrorist attack on New York City.
On a local level, Ellen volunteers her time in the Chapter house whenever and wherever she is needed. She has helped with Babysitter Training classes, Masters of Disaster classes, entered essential data into the Red Cross Client Assistance System, and updated important contact information. Ellen is respected and well liked and many of us have benefited from her experience, wisdom, and grounded advice. Ellen always has a smile on her face and graces us with her uplifting and positive perspective on life. We can’t imagine a Red Cross without Ellen’s innovative, creative, and enthusiastic contributions.
