General Information:
How do I register and pay for a class?
Registering is easy. Simply call your local Red Cross chapter. Business hours are Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., and Friday 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.; excluding major holidays. If you prefer, complete and return the attached Registration Form (DOC File) via mail or fax. Prepayment of course fee(s) is required, so be sure to have your credit card or other payment information ready when registering.
Will I receive a confirmation – and can I get a receipt?
You can receive a class confirmation and receipt by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope with your Registration Form. If you register online, you will receive an e-mail confirmation. Remember to verify the date and time of your training session as it appears on your confirmation.
Can I take a class if I have a medical condition or a special educational need?
We will work with you to accommodate medical conditions or disabilities as much as possible, although certification requirements vary among classes. For more information, or to pre-arrange a class, call the Health and Safety department at 269.962.7528 or email angie_gresley@yahoo.com.
How actively must I participate in class?
You'll learn more – and have more fun – by participating as much as possible. Most classes include videos, group discussions and skills practice that require you to participate in hands–on activities. Since some of the skills practice takes place on the floor, please wear comfortable, non-restrictive clothing.
To receive certification, you must attend all class sessions and pass both skills and written testing.
What if I'm late to class?
Since the core of most programs is taught at the beginning of class, you won't want to miss a minute of class time. In order to maximize training time, session starting times are firm. Late arrivals are admitted at the discretion of the
Instructor, but tardiness may affect certification. If you arrive too late or miss a scheduled class, a re-registration fee may be assessed to register for another class.
Attendance/Punctuality?
Please plan on arriving for class 5 to 10 minutes prior to the start of class to sign in and receive your materials.
Students arriving after the class has begun, will be asked to reschedule by calling the office during business hours. 100% attendance is mandatory for certification.
Weather Related Cancellations
It is rare that classes cancel, however if inclement weather leads to the cancellation of Red Cross classes, we will call you at the phone number you provided. You may provide more than one phone number if you wish for us to try to reach you at more than one location. Tune to WBCK radio AM 930 for weather related cancellations.
Can I transfer or cancel a class?
If you need to transfer or cancel a class, please let us know at least two full working days in advance so we may fill your space. Please be sure to call during regular business hours (Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., and Friday 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.; excluding major holidays.) We will make every effort to accommodate your request, but refunds and transfers may not be honored if made without sufficient advance notice. No call ---- no shows do not get to reschedule and do not get a refund unless there is a verifiable medical emergency. $10.00 processing fee will be assessed for all refunds and transfers.
Can lost certificates be replaced?
We can send you replacement certificates for any courses taught in Calhoun or Branch County as long as your certification is still valid. Simply provide the course name, location and completion dates when making your request. A $5.00 processing fee will be assessed for each replacement certificate issued.
Can I get sick using a manikin?
CPR training with manikins is a safe and common practice. According to the Centers for Disease Control, there has never been a reported case of any infectious disease transmitted through the use of CPR manikins.
The American Red Cross trains nearly 12 million people annually in lifesaving skills and follows widely accepted guidelines for cleaning and decontaminating training manikins to reduce the risk of disease transmission.
To minimize your risk even further, you should practice good personal hygiene (i.e. frequent hand washing) and follow basic health precautions – especially if you have a condition that would increase the risk of exposure to infection for yourself or other participants.
What if I have a respiratory ailment or other infection?
If training cannot be postponed, you can call our office ahead of time and request your own manikin. Your manikin will not be used by anyone else until it has been cleaned according to the recommended end-of-class decontamination procedures.
Cancellation policy
Classes with less then six people registered will be cancelled the day before class. Students have the option to re-schedule.
Blended Learning – On–line Course Data
You must complete all online content prior to your skills session. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time in which to do so, we will be checking to make sure the online portion is complete by 4pm one business day before all scheduled Blended Learning skills sessions. Please make sure you have completed it by then. If you are not completed with the online portion at that time you will be removed from that skills session and you will need to call the office to get scheduled for the next skills session.
To receive certification, you must successfully complete both the online session (including passing the online exam), and the skills practice and assessment session. Please bring verification of online course completion (printout of final exam or grade page) to the skills practice session.
