The Reference Laboratory of the Mid-Atlantic Regional American Red
Cross is accredited as an advanced (Level I) Reference Laboratory
by the American Red Cross National Reference Laboratory for Blood
Group Serology and by the American Association of Blood Banks. The
Reference Laboratory is available 24 hours
a day, 365 days a year, to provide services
and products and work on blood samples from patients with serological
problems and to provide blood with special antigen types. In the event
a rare blood type is not available in our region, the Reference Laboratory
has direct access to the American Rare Donor Program and is therefore
able to obtain rare units from throughout the country.
The staff
at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Reference Laboratory are selected for
their expertise and enthusiasm, and are trained in the specialized
immunohematological technologies utilized at out facility. The staff's
technical skills, combined with our collection of rare blood cells
and antisera enable our Reference Laboratory to help meet the special
needs of all of your patients. If there is any information that you
