Therapeutic
Apheresis Service is available by the American Red Cross, Mid-Atlantic
Blood Services Region. This service is available Monday through Friday,
8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and as needed for emergencies after 4:00 p.m.,
holidays and weekends.

schedule a procedure during routine working hours call 668-3708.
After
hours, weekends and holidays call 446-7795 and ask for the therapeutic
nurse on-call.

Scheduling A Therapeutic Apheresis Procedure:

Ensure
written order is on the patient chart and includes:

Name of procedure requested
|
|
Type
of replacement fluid to be utilized
|
|
Number
of procedures ordered, i.e., daily for 3 days and start date
|

Hospital
consent on chart. |
| 4. |
Determine
if venous access is adequate for large gauge needle (16). If
not, physician must schedule catheter placement (large double
lumen). |
| 5. |
Order
must be on the chart from the physician who inserts catheter
stating placement is confirmed and it is okay to use for apheresis
procedure(s). |
