Course Registration:

By mail: Download and print course registration form. (pdf), complete and mail with payment to Course Registration, PO Box 52509, Durham, NC 27717.

In person: Bring completed registration form with payment to our office, Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm.

By phone: Call 919-489-6541 x328 and be prepared to provide course and contact information, as well as a Visa or MasterCard.

Online: Traditional classes must be paid for via telephone, by mail, or in person. If you are taking an online course, you may register and pay at www.redcrossonlinetraining.org/?chid=628

Online Learning with Classroom Skills Session

Learn the material online at your leisure, then attend a skills session and practice under the supervision of a certified instructor. Take any or all of the following components: First Aid, Adult, Child, or Infant CPR, Adult or Child AED, Universal Precautions. Pricing and sign up at redcrossonlinetraining.org. Please note: you will have 14 days to complete online portion from date of registration, and you need to attend a skills session within 30 days of completing the online portion. Please sign up no sooner than one month prior to desired skills session.

The purpose of this course is to teach those with a duty to act (including professional rescuers and healthcare providers) the skills needed to respond appropriately to breathing and cardiac emergencies.  This includes the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to care for a victim of cardiac arrest. 

Participants who successfully complete the course will have the choice of one of the following certificates:

  * CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and the Healthcare Provider which is valid for 2 years.

  * CPR/AED for the Healthcare Provider which is valid for 2 years.

  * CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer which is valid for 2 years.
* CPR/AED for the Lifeguard which is valid for 1 year.

Review CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and the Healthcare Provider($45)

This course is a review for individuals certified in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer within the past two years wishing to renew – persons who have not been certified within the past two years cannot take this course. Students must bring proof of prior certification, ARC 2007 book, and pocket mask to class. Certification for one (2) years.

Lay Responder Instructor Course ($175)

This course prepares candidates to teach the following:  First Aid, CPR, AED for the Workplace, Schools, and Community; Blended Learning First Aid/CPR/AED, Sport Safety Training, and First Aid - Responding to Emergencies.

Series includes training in CPR/AED and First Aid, Fundamentals of Instructor Training, proper classroom setup, administrative procedures, and teaching practice.  Student must attend and successfully complete all sessions to become a certified instructor.  (approx. 28 hours)

CPR/AED/First Aid Challenge ($25)

This option is available for individuals currently certified in their Challenge area by American Red Cross or American Heart Association and wishing to renew. If you are not currently certified, you must take a class. No instruction or review is provided; students take the written test and performs skills with minimal prompting. Student must have a current book before class. CPRO students need to bring their pocket mask to class. (Lay CPR valid 1 year, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer valid 2 years, First Aid 3 years)  Expect session to take approximately 1 hour.

Babysitter's Training Class ($50)

This one-day training provides 11-15-year-olds with the information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children. Develop skills in the critical areas of: leadership, safety, basic care, first aid.

Pet First Aid ($35)

Created for conscientious pet owners, Pet First Aid builds first aid skills and provides guidance in emergency situations until veterinary care is available.
Course includes:

Wilderness First Aid ($120)

Wilderness First Aid is a course in backcountry emergency response. This 16 hour course is for those who work, live or play in remote areas – away from EMS service.

This class covers assessment and urgent first aid techniques, but not in-depth CPR. Basic first aid skills are covered, making this course appropriate for anyone regardless of experience level. No prerequisites are required. Certification is valid for 3 years and serves as a Basic First Aid certification as well. A minimum age of 15 is recommended for participants due to the serious nature of the course and scenarios.

The American Camping Association has approved the American Red Cross Wilderness First Aid Basics for the Part C First Aider in their accreditation standards. The Boy Scouts of America have also recommended this course.

The types of activities and persons needing more advanced training in first aid include:

- Hikers and Backpackers
- Scouting leaders and older scouts
- Kayakers and canoers
- Farm workers
- Utility workers in remote areas
- Forest Rangers
- Law enforcement and rescue crews
- Disaster Situations

Aquatics, Water Safety, Lifeguarding

Standard First Aid

Participants in this course learn to recognize and respond to emergencies including shock, heat and cold emergencies, sudden illnesses and poisonings. Additionally, participants will learn first aid for everything from cuts and scrapes to muscle, bone and joint injuries. Certification for three (3) years.

CPR

This hands-on skills training prepares students to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies. Adult CPR is for victims age 13+; Child CPR for ages 1-12; Infant CPR for newborn to twelve months. Certification for one (1) year.

AED

This training teaches students how to safely use an Automated External Defribrillator (AED) to provide care for victims of sudden cardiac arrest. Adult AED training is for victims age 13+; Child AED training for ages 1-12. Certification for one (1) year.

CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer

This course teaches students to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants, use an AED on an adult or child victim of cardiac arrest and use personal protective equipment to stop bloodborne pathogens and other diseases from spreading. Equivalent to Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association. Certification for two (2) years for Healthcare Providers; one (1) year for Lifeguards.
