The American Red Cross accomplishes this goal by working within the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement—the world’s largest humanitarian network with more than 180 Red Cross and Red Crescent national societies and more than 100 million volunteers. In all our work, we abide by the seven fundamental principles: humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality.

More than 50 years after World War II, the pain of family separation still weighs heavily in many hearts. In 1990, the American Red Cross created the Holocaust and War Victims Tracing and Information Center to help survivors learn the fate of lost family members. Our tracing service is confidential and free of charge, and can also provide proof of internment for restitution. With the aging of the survivor population, it is imperative that we reach out immediately to let survivors know that it is still possible that their loved ones did not die without a trace. For more information contact The American Red Cross Holocaust and War Victims Tracing Center to submit a tracing request concerning European civilians separated from their family due to the events of World War II and its aftermath, 1933-1957. or please call (908)725-2217.
