Armed Forces Emergency Services
There is a critical need for Red Cross Armed Forces Emergency Services because it keeps families linked, 24-hours- a day, every day of the year, through a world-wide communication system. Not only do military personnel and their families rely on the emergency communication services of the American Red Cross, but the Department of Defense requires Red Cross verification of family condition to make decisions about permitting service personnel to go home on emergency leave from anywhere in the world. More than 1000 people in our chapter area have a family emergency such as a serious illness or death, requiring the Red Cross to send vital information to or receive vital information from active duty military - including National Guard and reserve units. Red Cross counseling and financial assistance for emergency travel and help is assessing appropriate military and community resources, also helps military families cope with emergencies.
