For people who haven’t taken the course...

In about two hours employees learn how bloodborne pathogens are spread, how to prevent exposures and what to do if exposed to infectious materials. Led by certified Red Cross instructors. This course helps your organization comply with the training component if OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogen’s Standard.

For people who need to be trained to teach the course

Preventing the spread of infectious diseases in the workplace is critical. That’s why the American Red Cross is offering a newly updated course to help employees protect themselves and enjoy a safer work environment.

If you would like to be certified to teach this course you must first be authorized in First Aid/CPR/AED for the professional Rescuer, as well as standard first aid, responding to emergencies, sports safety training, nurse assistant and/or HIV/AIDS training. Then instructors must successfully complete self-study pretest. They must also complete a self-orientation to new Bloodborne Pathogens Training materials or attend a Bloodborne Pathogens Training: preventing Disease Transmission Group Orientation.

There is no crossover course for qualified instructors from other organizations since the instructor course is approximately four hours in length.
