The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation Donor Advised fund of the Waccamaw Community Foundation will provide $10,000 for the project with the remainder of the almost $15,000 cost coming from The Myrtle Beach Air Force Base Redevelopment Authority, Nicholas said.
Jonathan Kresken, President of the WCF stated, “The Waccamaw Community Foundation along with the Knight Foundation understands that the Coastal SC Chapter of the Red Cross is in need of a reliable communications system that they can use on a daily basis and more importantly during disasters to ensure that the families they serve can get the immediate attention they need. We are proud to partner with the MBAFB Redevelopment Authority in making a grant that can secure the needed communication system that will grow with the organization. “
Speaking on behalf of the Redevelopment Authority, Executive Director Buddy Styers said: “The Authority recognized some time ago that the success of the Red Cross serving the citizens of Horry and Georgetown Counties was in the best interest of our communities. “We were glad to support the conveyance of the property they now own thru the public benefit conveyance process and continue to be interested in supporting the Red Cross in any way we can. Our contribution of funds to secure this grant is but one small way to do that.”
HTC provided an analysis of the chapter’s communication needs and provided a packaged upgrade that would not only be affordable but would help the Chapter save up to $200 a month on telephone service. The new voice over internet protocol system will serve both the Myrtle Beach and the Georgetown offices of the local Red Cross.
“HTC is extremely thankful for the opportunity to assist the Coastal South Carolina Chapter of the American Red Cross upgrade their communications capabilities,” said Tom Vitt, HTC marketing director. “As a member-owned not for profit cooperative, HTC is keenly aware of the economic pressures faced by service organizations such as the ARC. The population growth in the coastal Carolina region continues to stretch the financial and human resources of the local chapter. HTC appreciates the opportunity to provide the local chapter with a communication system that will enhance the productivity of the local staff and provide flexibility for growth at an affordable rate.”
