Annual Report for 1996

Chairman's Massage

Greetings to all our friends and neighbors. The Board of Directors would like to thank those families and friends that have supported the York-Poquoson Chapter of the American Red Cross for the contributions and volunteer services during the last fiscal year. Without your help we could not have been as successful as we were at providing services and training to our neighbors and friends. There was a time when neighbors sincerely helped neighbors. Some neighbors still do - the York-Poquoson, American Red Cross is one such neighbor. However, your local chapter is struggling against ever decreasing funding from the United Way (The United Way is losing funding also); and it seems that emergencies - tornadoes, floods, hurricanes, storms, fires and earthquakes are increasing with every passing news account. To stay vigilant, your chapter can use your talents and / or money. We do not ask for this for ourselves - but we ask on behalf of those among us who will need our services. Last year, the chapter provided services and / or help to over 2,000 families, friends and neighbors. This year the number will increase while the money will probably decrease. With your continued support, we are planning to help our neighbors, families and friends. We can not fight the good fight without you; but with you we can accomplish much. Thanks for your previous contribution, and we look forward to working with you this year.

Yours truly,

Dwight Henderson,
Chapter Chairman
