Annual Report for 1999 A Message from the Chapter Manager
Unforeseen personal disaster. Information to protect yourself from AIDS. What to do until the ambulance arrives. These are just a few of the humanitarian needs in our community, needs that the York/Poquoson Chapter volunteers fill every day, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Our volunteers are trained and ready to open emergency disaster shelters, send urgent messages for military families, advise teens on how to live safe, healthy lives, and teach lifesaving skills to old and young alike.
For example, when hurricane Bertha threatened to come rushing ashore, our volunteers manned a designated shelter providing support and helping to feed those who sought refuge there. When seven families lost their homes to fire, our volunteers were there providing words of encouragement and financial assistance. Also, our volunteers received a first place award and special recognition from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Blood Center for exceeding their collection goal.
In addition to all this activity, the York/Poquoson Chapter proudly reports the final payment of its Chapter house mortgage and a newly constructed storage facility.
The Red Cross relies on the gifts of people just like you to make these programs, activities, and accomplishments possible. Thank you for your continued support.
