Donate Blood Help Save A Life
In the United States, a blood transfusion is required every 1.66 seconds. Blood transfusions are needed for trauma victims, heart surgery, organ transplants, and patients receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or other diseases, such as sickle cell disease. Modern medicine could not be practiced without safe, available blood.
American Red Cross donors supply almost half the nation's blood supply. Each blood donation can help more than one person; few patients need all of the components in blood, which can be separated and given to different patients. Blood components include red blood cells, platelets, plasma, and cryoprecipitated antihemophilic factor (AHF). Since up to four components can be derived from one unit of blood, your donation could help as many as four different people in need. It takes about an hour of your time to be somebody's hero.
